TAMWORTH REGIONAL CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC (TRCM)
The aim of Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music: ‘To provide quality music education, accessible to all, enriching lives and the community’.
Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music was established in 1984 by the community it serves. It began operations on the ground floor of the Dominican Convent Building, sharing facilities with the Department of Public Works.
The Conservatorium commenced with an honorary part-time Director, three teachers and thirteen students.
In 1993 Public Works moved offices and the ownership of the building was transferred to the University of New England. The Conservatorium now leases the entire building from the University, with which it is affiliated. Tamworth Regional Council also provides rehearsal facilities for large ensembles in the former Council Chambers.

Modest funding is received from the State Government (disbursed through the Department of Education and Training), however the Conservatorium relies heavily on financial assistance from Tamworth Foundation for Musical Education, business organisations and members of the community.
Responsibility for the Conservatorium is vested in an Incorporated Board of Management, all members of which serve in an honorary capacity. Running of the organisation is assumed by the Director.
1,000 students of all ages enjoy the extensive facilities and the many opportunities available for performance. Tertiary courses are not available at the Conservatorium, which is a performance-based, community institution. Many students sit for examinations with the Australian Music Examination Board and many have undertaken tertiary studies and careers in music, either as performers or teachers.
